October & November’s Program

Our October Program will by Elizabeth Anker, singer, and voice teacher. She had been the director of the Platinum Singers from the Harriet Tubman House until the building was closed to seniors on June 30th. BPT member Jim Flavin and other seniors have sung with her. She will be bringing a singing group with her. Currently she is conducting classes in Jamaica Plain and Central Square, Cambridge.

Contralto Elizabeth Anker sings Baroque oratorio, art songs, new music, opera, and a variety of non-classical styles. She has recorded Bach, The Shakers, and many songs written for her deep contralto. Performances as a soloist include national tours with Sequentia of Köln, Boston Camerata, and Magnificat Baroque of San Francisco.

She has created opera roles for Francine Trester and Larry Thomas Bell, as well as modern revivals of Baroque operas by Handel and Cesti. She was a soloist in the world premiere of John Adams’s Grand Pianola Music with the San Francisco Symphony and with Boston institutions such as Emmanuel Music, Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Cecilia, Chorus Pro Musica, as well as the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra of San Francisco and festivals in Europe. Needless to say, she has sung Messiah and Bach’s Mass in B minor many, many times. For more information, visit her website at elizabethanker.com.

There will be no November speaker. A complete turkey dinner with all the fixings (or fish or a vegetarian plate, should you wish) will be served from 3-5:30 PM. The cost of this dinner is $22.
