About the Boston Prime Timers

Who are the Prime Timers?

This worldwide organization was founded by Woody Baldwin here in Boston on August 15, 1987. He was pleased that 42 men attended this first meeting on the hottest day that summer. Our membership has grown steadily, and for the past few years the Boston Prime Timers has approached 300 members. The Prime Timers Worldwide has thousands of members in more than 70 chapters on three continents, Australia, Europe, and North America.

Prime Timers is a brotherhood of mature gay and bisexual men and their friends who join together for educational, support, and social activities. Our diverse membership, some retired, some still working, are involved and focused on improving the image and quality of gay life through activities like volunteerism, politics, gay issues, arts, sports and entertainment.

What do the Prime Timers do?

In the Boston Chapter, members receive a copy of the Prologue, our monthly newsletter, which includes articles of interest and a calendar of events, information on the guest speaker and educational topic of our monthly meeting. Invitations are offered to parties at member homes, lunches, dinners, national and international trips, courses of study, theater, concerts, swims, bowling, bridge, and dozens of other activities.

As a member of Prime Timers, you have the opportunity to network with other members who share your interests by completing our interest and talent/skills profiles which will be included in our Confidential Membership Roster. Almost all of our members choose to be listed in our Confidential Roster.

Your membership in Boston Prime Timers opens the door to Prime Timers Worldwide. For example, you are invited to attend national conventions, travel to cities and countries on three continents and enjoy the hospitality of local Prime Timers chapters, or host international guests at your home.

In Boston our Member Meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month (except in August and December when we have our Anniversary and Holiday events) from 2:30 to 5:30 PM at the United South End Settlements’ Harriet Tubman House, 566 Columbus Ave, in Boston’s South End at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue. The nearest “T” stops are Massachusetts Avenue (Orange Line) and Symphony (Green Line E trolley). Check us out! You are welcome to visit us twice at one of the following activities: a Member Meeting, August or December events, a monthly dining out, or a theater event before joining the Boston Prime Timers.

Our membership dues are $30 per year ($54 for couples at one mailing address). See specifics and discounts on our Membership Application Form. There is an additional charge of $10 per annum for mail delivery of our newsletter, the Prologue. The Prologue and the member roster are available free on this website. Members pay their own way at restaurants, theaters, concerts (often offered at group discount rates), and the $2 fee at meetings and house parties which covers office and meeting room rent and club overhead costs.
