June President’s Message

Hello Gentlemen,

I am looking forward to seeing you at one of the several upcoming potlucks this summer. I would like to thank all the members who joined us on our Duck Boat for the Pride parade and especially the members who walked in front carrying our banner and greeting onlookers. Participation like this increases our profile and invites potential new members to check out the club.

I would like to thank Coley Kelly and Helder Lemos for their participation and fundraising for the AIDS Walk every year as well as the members who donated money to support them. (More about this here.)

The last Tuesday of the month is our monthly dinner at Club Café (but remember, there is no dinner in August). The dinner is typically $28, but Jim Morgrage welcomes anyone who wants to come by and order off the menu if you wish to join your friends.

Also, the Boston Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have invited us to Club Café for their Sister Stories Book Tour on Saturday, July 13th. (See this page for additional information.)

Save the date: August 24th from 1-5 PM for our 32nd Anniversary Party. The cost this year is $30 and guests are welcome.

Don’t forget the Seacoast Gay Men are holding their 40th Anniversary party on August 10th. We have been invited to attend. You can purchase tickets by visiting their website at seacoastgaymen.org. (See this article for more information.)

Finally, please welcome our new board members: Norman Pelletier, James Garrity and Paul Cram.

Have a great summer!

34th AIDS Walk & Run Recap

Representing the Boston Prime Timers Walk Team, Helder Lemos and Coley Kelly joined more than 2,100 walkers, runners and volunteers that turned out for the 34th annual AIDS Walk & Run on Sunday, June 2nd. The Walk raised more than $520,000 to support the work of AIDS Action. An amazing success! Photos from the Walk are online on the AIDS Action Committee (AAC)’s Facebook page.

Thank you and congratulations to the 22 generous individual Boston Prime Timers, their supporters, and the BPT Board who raised $1,050 exceeding our goal of $1000.

A big thank you to our April BPT meeting speaker, Franc Castro, Development Director at the Fenway Community Health Center who supported the BPT’s Walk efforts and whose donation helped us to exceed our $1,000 goal. Thanks also to Jim McCloskey, who managed Prologue donations, and to our own David Clark for his technical assistance in this and so many other BPT’s efforts.

From the AAC webpage:

Proceeds from the Walk & Run will benefit AIDS Action’s public policy advocacy work, housing and legal services, prevention outreach and education, local and national advocacy, and health services for people struggling with substance misuse.

“Thank you to everyone who came out to walk, run, or volunteer, and to all of the individuals and sponsors whose donations made this year’s Walk such a success,” said Jane Powers, MSW, LICSW, Acting CEO of Fenway Health, AIDS Action’s parent organization. “Your support has helped Massachusetts make tremendous progress toward the goal of zero new HIV infections and serves as a model of HIV prevention and treatment across the country.”

Sister Stories Book Tour

The Boston Sisters have invited us to Club Café for their Sister Stories Book Tour on Saturday, July 13th, from 6-8 PM. Join them as they welcome award-winning author Heather Jacks. Heather has written a book all about The Sisters’ forty year history and it has just been published! Now she is on a mission to travel across the country to share their story.

Come meet her, talk to the Sisters, and learn more about the Sisters’ history and mission. This event is absolutely free! So come on out and hang with us (and get the book)!

Our brothers at the Seacoast Gay Men have invited us to join them to celebrate their 40th Anniversary Party with a gala party from 6-10 PM on August 10th at the Spring Hill Lodge (117 Pond Road, South Berwick, ME 03908).
